Jenay Robert, a Senior Researcher with EDUCAUSE, presented at the Quality Matters (QM) Research Connect Conference on the EDUCAUSE 2025 AI Landscape Research study. The full report can be found at: bit.ly/2025AILandscape The survey had fifty-two closed and open ended questions (but depending on branching fewer questions). Responses that met the inclusion criteria totaled 788. The survey was available November 4-19, 2024. Compared to the 2024 report (49%), 57% of respondents agreed or strongly agreed that “we view AI as a strategic priority.” The top three strategies mentioned by respondents were providing training for faculty (63%), providing training for staff (56%), and increasing access to AI tools (50%). Most respondents, noted Robert, are optimistic about many opportunities with AI. Opportunities noted were automation of repetitive tasks and risks included misinformation, use of data without consent, and insufficient data protection. Interestingly, several noted a division among faculty and staff between those who love AI and those who hate it. There was an increase (compared to the previous 2024 survey) in responses to “does your institution have any AI-related acceptable use policies?” Robert noted that respondents believe students use AI more than faculty. Robert spoke about AI training and differences observed between smaller and larger institutions. Cybersecurity and privacy concerns are present in small and larger institutions. EDUCAUSE, Robert explained, has several courses available that I want to check out!
