Penny Ralston-Berg spoke at the Quality Matters (QM) Research Connect conference about the student perspectives 2.0 survey. There were 124 respondents at six institutions. Most had taken numerous online courses, and participants listed a wide range of confort with technology. Participants defined learner-centered design as having clear expectations, designed experience, relevant content, meaningful context, accessible media, and regular and substantive interaction. Ralson-Berg shared several tables comparing student rankings of the specific review standards. Clarity was emphasized by students. I thought the “other valuable features?” question provided valuable questions. Participants mentioned online study groups and free software and training. Others mentioned AI tools and how to use them would be valuable information. One attendee pointed out that this is a seventy-three item survey and respondents still provided responses to open ended feature requests! They also shared free design documents at hidocmodel.com.
