MAXDAYS 2025: Unlocking MAXQDA Analysis Basics

Graham Hughes provided an introduction to MAXQDA at MAXDAYS 2025. The session has the clever title: “Get Going! Early steps in MAXQDA Analysis.” This is not the first time I watch a session led by Hughes. I enjoy his explanations. The document browser features were explained along with the code system and data segments. The number of coded segments is indicated in parenthesis. Each window has a separate toolbar. There are context-specific menus: you can highlight text and right click to obtain information. The bottom ribbon has a link to preferences and the URL for the help resources. There are options to search for keywords and auto coding. Hughes explained that documents need to be “activated” to be considered in the analysis. Interviews and documents can be filtered and activated. AI assist can then work on tasks such as recommending topics/themes. This overview did get into menu components that I didn’t know about.
