Quantitative and Qualitative Context for Diverse Learners

Christopher Camacho and Julia Ransom recorded and presented a session for the CAST UDL Symposium about “Understanding the Social-Emotional, Cognitive, and Metacognitive Context of Our Diverse Learners.” They retitled it Learner Voices… Camacho is a senior scientist at Pearson along with Ransom. They both do qualitative research. For qualitative measures, Camacho spoke about reviewing self-efficacy, beliefs about social mobility, subjective social status, grit (modified) sense of control, and perceived discrimination. Camacho shared the means from the generalized self-efficacy results It was interesting to hear that some demographic/livd experience groups had lower scores.I also did not know about the perceived discrimination . The next steps will be to conduct analyses on the survey questions, plan qualitative/quantitative analyses on learner differences across intersections of identities. I had not realized that Pearson did this… and also learned about some survey instruments and qualitative analyses that can be performed.
