Use of Oxford Nanopore Technologies for Microlab Development

Rajesh Pandey from the CSIR-Institute of Genomics and Integrative Biology in India presented at the Nanopore Community Meeting 2021 on “Genomic surveillance for future pandemic preparedness.” The lab does integrative genomics of host-pathogen interactions focusing on high-throughput and high-priority sequencing while trying to maintain cost efficiency. They have a sample to sequence microlab workflow using Oxford Nanopore Technologies for several pathogens, including dengue, Chikungunya, SARS-CoV-2. They have also used Nanopore technologies to discover differences in cases of reinfection and variants of concern (VOCs). Pandey also spoke about sequencing samples from breakthrough re-infection. The group has developed a Genome Sequencing Lab at the New Delhi Airport. They have developed an integrative platform with a dashboard for predictions of outcomes. For this, they have a data analytics framework that is secure and accessible to the community. Pandey spoke about how they have learned the pandemic, patients, and collaborators.
