Tonight I watched the MAXDAYS session “Collaborating in MAXQDA: Best Practices for Teams.” Joel Drevlow from iQDAS Consulting. Drevlow noted that this session was based on a chapter they wrote in a publication by MAXQDA Press. Drevlow did a lot of program evaluation and survey analysis. Analyzing collaboratively, Drevlow explained, has several advantages: multiplicity of perspectives, styles, and expertise; enables intercoder reliability checks; division of labor; ideal training environment… and it’s fun. Drevlow talked about the distinctions between team assignments. There is a project management piece which includes recurring data import. Collaborating in MAXQDA requires staying organized: a document system and folders help, said Drevlow. A document memo system can be used to communicate as a project manager with others. Drevlow uses a document folder called “Unsure” to return to later. Code colors can also help organize and collaborate. The Team Cloud system allows you to merge and share components of a project. You can have up to five members in a team project. The team lead then integrates the changes made by the four members. Drevlow suggests first building the code system synchronously as a team.
