I continued watching the KBase Educators Orientation from December 2024. Ellen Dow from KBase provided an overview of the narratives in the KBase Educators Org. Dow shared how students, for example, can import data from other narratives. This is a feature I did not know about! RAST and Prokka are two annotation tools available. Dow recommended comparing tools. The KBase Educators Org has narratives for genome assembly with embedded critical thinking questions. We will use these as an introduction to KBase in BIT 295. The genome comparison narrative describes how to use apps to compare genomes that will also be helpful in the class. The “Best Practices Guide” has information for instructors. The Guide includes explanations and examples for “levels of engagement” such as pre-computed narratives or app choice. The guide has animations and screen casts to help identify features of a narrative. Dow shared examples of genome announcements produced by courses.
