Four Types of Data in Multimedia Analysis Explained

Andreas W. Muller presented at MAXDAYS 2025 on “Mastering Multimedia Analysis.” Muller has been doing training for MAXQDA for several years. Muller started speaking about four types of data: text, video, audio, and images. Selection fields are rectangular for videos and images. Selection fields for video and audio is based on timeframes. Coding image data is based on rectangular selection. Muller suggests including Segment Comments to keep track of your rationale and information about the codes. Text/image PDFs documents appear under documents and can be edited. There is a new powerful feature: extract text from image. that can be used to code text from images. With audio data, Muller explained that you select a snippet of the audio clips. Muller suggests coding the transcript when possible. The embedded video player helps facilitate coding of videos. Muller pointed out that you can use shortcut keys. Muller suggests creating new codes and adding descriptive information. There is a code segments summary that can be filtered by multimedia type. Muller suggests using the same codes for different media types. Segment comments can be specific to the coded excerpts; thematic codes can help compare trends in different media. Transcript and audio/video highlights are separate. Muller answered several audience questions. They mentioned another MAXDAYS session on image analysis that I will watch!
