Noah Bryan from the Bayview Secondary School in Canada presented at the Nanopore Community Meeting in Boston. The title of the five-minute session was “Is the water safe to drink/ The rapid test is the missing link!” Bryan is a sixteen-year-old student grade twelve student from Toronto, Canada. They developed a water test using the MinION. They were interested in the recreational water in their community. Bryan mentioned that UNICEF has challenged people to address the water quality issue by developing water quality tests. Bryan developed an extraction process using the Bento Lab in a suitcase and 16S amplification for sequencing on the MinION. Bryan explained that they want to develop the test further for The World Bank Global Fund. They spoke about clean water as a future Bryan and the team are building. This is such a creative project. I am interested in their methods and how they filter water.
