Jagged Profiles and Learner Variability

I am continuing to watch CAST UDL Symposium recordings! Tonight, I watched the recording for “Elevating the Adult Learner Voice in Professional Development” presented by Anne Bishop & Kasia Derbiszewska. They started with a poll using a system I had not seen before: Jagged profiles! The range of variability was visually evident as participants shared their reflections. I have been interested in professional development for a couple of years and learning about implementation. Derbiszewska spoke about implementation and helping others reflect on the process. I love how Derbiszewska shared the session goals in the format of the UDL guidelines. Bishop has been working with Derbiszewska for a decade and works on mind body and pilates connections. bit.ly/PDVoice was a collection of resources they shared to create Jagged profiles. The Jagged Profile was a lot of fun to learn about. A user testimonial was played as a video and got me thinking about ways to use this tool. Bishop shared their experience using this tool with students from students and instructors learning about exercises! Derbiszewska did a quick demonstration of setting up an account and creating a question set for Jagged Profile use. Derbiszewska talked about a feature they are developing for classroom/course sets for pre/post, for example. They also explained their commitment to accessibility and current work on making the tool more accessible. Derbiszewska then shared a template with six exit ticket prompts and asked participants to think about how they could use these. One participant suggested combining resources: having students complete the exit ticket to increase participation. I now have a new tool and GoogleDoc full of resources to explore.
