Testmaz

Tonight I watched the last on-demand ASMCUE 2022 session entitled: “Exploring Effective Testing Strategies for the Upper Level Biology Course.” Galyna Kufryk from Grand Canyon University began by talking about different platforms for testing. They chose Testmaz because there were multiple test options. Kufryk explained that overrides can be easily adjusted as well as photos can be integrated along with questions. Kufryk implemented a test with Testmaz. Kufryk created a practice test for students. Pre/post surveys and student feedback were analyzed. Kufryk compared these two testing modalities. Answering one question at a time seemed to be better for students. I found the graphs and metrics used appropriate for a broad audience. Kufryk shared final grade distributions and effect size. Importantly, Kufryk discussed the modality with students and they mentioned the modality where they couldn’t go back helped them not “second guess” themselves. They also expressed appreciation for the modality for focusing on one question at a time, evaluating and crafting their responses, and then moving on. Kufryk concluded that this way of implementing tests is beneficial to learners.
