The MinKNOW Graphical User Interface (GUI)

Tonight I watched the MinKNOW GUI video from the Nanopore Learning course on Human Genome Sequencing and Analysis. Before watching these videos, I reviewed the Kit 14 videos. The MinKNOW graphical user interface (GUI) session was presented by Marta Verdugo from the Technical Services Team at Oxford Nanopore Technologies (ONT). The MinKNOW software is used to control ONT devices. Verdugo noted that this primary interface for sequencing experiments is similar across devices with minor changes. MinKNOW will ask you to log in and then offers tutorials. I have used the tutorials to familiarize myself with updates. The Connection Manager allows you to add hosts by IP address or Device ID like a GridION device ID. MinKNOW has four main buttons in the Start menu: Start sequencing, analysis, flow cell check, and hardware check. The Experiments tab has current and past experiments. System Messages displays notes such as flow cell check/pores and hard drive space. Settings is where you can review the software version and subpackage versions. This menu allows you to search for updates. Help is where you can refresh the GUI. I needed this option since sometimes after longer runs the GUI stops refreshing. I am going to try to save a host like the GridION and the desktop workstation, though I think it will only work if using a VPN.
