Julia Gerson, Chief Product Manager at MAXQDA, shared new developments in MAXQDA Days 2025. Gerson spoke about the development of MAXQDA by first adding TeamCloud followed by AI Assist. Next, Automatic Transcription was added. MAXQDA has also added stand-alone web apps including Automatic Transcription and MAXQDA Tailwind. Gerson did emphasize that user consent is required before using web-based tools. One new feature allows extraction of text from images to review and edit. Optical Character Recognition (OCR) detects text and allows the user to edit for accuracy. Images can also be described by text. Gerson also shared the new parts-of-speech tool to analyze your text based on whether words are nouns, adjectives, verbs… The same functionality can be applied in word clouds or frequency tables to help users identify themes. Gerson then shared the Serendipity tool to examine co-occurrence, for example. This feature produces randomly chosen segments, for example. The AI Coding tool is part of the AI Assist package. AI Coding needs a document to analyze, a code that should be searched for, and the code memo that provides context. Inclusion and exclusion criteria can be entered in the memo. The codes generated with AI Assist identifies codes found with the MAXQDA color scheme. Gerson said that a feature that is coming soon is Synonyms. The dialog box and options were updated. Next, Gerson demonstrated how MAXQDA Tailwind can take documents and create summaries. This web-based stand-alone tool allows users to create summaries with live references. Topics can then be modified and help you create new coding structures. The Tailwind Chat will allow you to ask questions about your data. Use cases include document summaries and summary tables.
