The Open Ed 2021 ten-minute session entitled “Check the O.L. Liner Notes from Groundbreaking Online Learning was presented by Anne–Marie Scott, Deputy Provost, from Athabascau University in Canada, and Terry Greene, Senior eLearning Designer, at Trent University. The title was Greene’s brainchild: O.L. for online learning and hip hop music influences. Greene spoke about similarities between online learning and making hip-hop music. They started as a podcast and are considering a book. The conversations they had with ten people about a variety of learning experiences and topics. They started with Laura Gibbs, “The Online Course Lady.” This was Greene’s highlight or favorite. Scott shared that Al Filreis talked about modpo metapedagogical. People have taken Filreis’ MOOC for years, and sometimes participants have returned to enroll again. Scott spoke about how many of these courses “were really attentive to the building of community and also to like breaking down the walls of the academy and allowing other people in.” Some explored events around a campus and others were like Equity Unbound connecting people globally. Scott mentioned relistening to sessions and presenting the information in an alternate format like an online book. Scott also talked about a season 2 and receiving suggestions from the audience. Scott encouraged viewers to share suggestions for courses and people doing excellent work that may not get noticed. One thing that caught my attention is that their session was a fun conversation between the two presenters. It was informal, conversational, and also informative! I love how the project has developed into a podcast series with a likely second season and a potential online book. I talked to Rich today about PubPubs and podcasts, yet I feel there is so much to do before doing something like this. This session helped inspire and motivate.
