AI Insights from Quality Matters Lightning Talks

It has been a busy week! That is why this post is late: I fell asleep. Tonight I watched the recently posted Quality Matters (QM) AI Lightning Talks part I. The introduction slides had Antonio Bowden’s new book that uses AI. This session was part of the Quality Matters Connect (day 3) conference that was held November 6, 2024 in Rosemont, Illinois. After a short technical challenge getting the slides up, the session began with an introduction about facing challenges and “jumping onboard with AI while it is moving really fast.” As educators, we want to support students in inclusive ways. The example from the first lightning session was on “Entrepreneurial Leadership in Education” and making changes to incorporate AI. The first speaker emphasized using AI as a peer consultant. The speaker explained use cases for AI that included checking personal energy saving plans, for example. The example was a custom GPT that did not search the internet and was based on documents that were provided. Next, they used prompts for aligning to institutional goals and using QM reports to align with accreditation reports. The Academic Navigator GPT is available with a premium OpenAI account. This quick introduction to the sessions provided several ideas for use of GPTs for course alignment and improvement!
