Learning from Students

“School for all: Students empowered for change” was the title of the recorded session for the CAST UDL Symposium presented by Beatriz Duda Macera and Jessica Susano Ramos. This is the last prerecorded session of the symposium! The session began with a description of the education system in Peru. Two schools in different places in Peru were depicted. They created a space for dialogue on inclusion and UDL for high school students in Peru. Students from Argentina were invited. Different experiences were created so that students could learn about diversity. Students were interviewed and shared their experiences and what inclusion means. A nine-year-old spoke about what inclusion means and friends from different countries. A fourteen-year-old from Peru spoke about equality and family. This student also mentioned how classmates make insensitive jokes about people from different regions of the country. Another student spoke in Spanish about stereotypes and discrimination. The presenters learned from these interviews to continue working with students as agents for change. This was the last recorded session of the Symposium. It was nice to end with one that spoke about learning from and with students and in Latin American countries!
