Alexis Chavez spoke at MAXDAYS 2025 on “MAXQDA 101: Essentials for new users.” Chavez is a graduate student at the University of Nebraska. Chavez explained that MAXQDA is capable of qualitative and mixed method analyses. The software also has tools for statistical analyses. Chavez noted that a general workflow within MAXQDA starts with organizing the data, analyzing it, and exporting data/visualizations for presentations. There may be interconnections between these stages. AI Assist, Chavez mentioned, can be used to summarize text, suggest and apply codes, suggest sub codes, and even chat with the data. Chavez shared how the MAXQDA software can take a variety of data types. Chavez shared screen and how to import survey data. They imported survey reponses and highlighted the quantitative data that was imported. The code system is visually depicted and can be used to merge or review codes. The retrieve segments window helps users focus on certain codes. Chavez also demonstrated the utility of memos and comments. With videos, segments of the video can be enhanced or captured with memos. As I watch more of these sessions, I learn not only features, but how others utilize the software and organize their data.
