Jennifer Pusateri presented at the CAST UDL Symposium a synchronous session entitled “Supporting the UDL Mindset Shift in Educators.” Pusateri is a CAST Faculty member: I didn’t know this existed and will look into it. Someone in the chat mentioned pairing UDL with Quality Matters. They spoke about the idea of having a progression in UDL. They shared a graphic depicting the UDL progression. Pusateri shared a diagram they labeled “the UDL teacher development continuum.” There is a mindset shift that occurs with UDL, and it is the theory behind UDL. Pusateri shared a multi-step checklist and information in the presentation Aeheiws Pusateri then recommended making an inventory of the classroom environment. They recommended starting with the problem you want to address and asking for feedback. An audience member asked if there is a guideline or checklist for students for self-assessing. Another attendee spoke about the process mindset and not the product. Pusateri added that it is about progress, not perfection. Pusateri also spoke about Cognitive Load Theory and how there are parts of load we want to keep. An attendee added that there is a difference between productive struggle and just struggle. Pusateri also spoke about publishing some resources in an upcoming publication.
